HEARING

AIDS

There are many options available. There are four technology levels: Basic, Standard, Advanced and Premium. Each level offers digital hearing solutions to best match your hearing loss and to best address your hearing needs, preferences, lifestyle and budget.

There are five main types of hearing aids:

Completely-in-the-canal (CIC)

Micro-technology allows this type of hearing aid to be worn deep inside the ear canal. They are so tiny, they are almost invisible when they are worn.

In-the-canal (ITC)

Hearing aids that are smaller than the ITE style and are also custom made to fit the size and shape of your ear canal.

In-the-ear (ITE)

These aids are custom-made and fit comfortably inside the ear.

Behind-the-ear (BTE)

A style that sits behind the ear, while the amplified sound passes down a tube to a customized earmold which fits in your ear.

Open-Ear

These hearing aids are the newest design to reduce or eliminate that echo or plugged up feeling wearers can sometimes experience (referred to as the occlusion effect). They are easy to wear and barely noticeable.

All hearing Aids Contain:

  • A microphone to pick up sounds.
  • An amplifier to make sounds louder.
  • A receiver to send the louder signals to the eardrum.
  • A battery to act as the power source.

WHO SHOULD YOU SEE?

If you suspect you have a hearing loss and may need hearing aids, make sure you see an Audiologist. Most people with hearing loss can benefit greatly from hearing aids. However, today’s hearing aids are much more complex than in the past and they require extensive knowledge to prescribe them accurately. An Audiologist will advise you if hearing aids are recommended for your hearing loss and has the advanced education needed to prescribe and fit today’s high technology hearing instruments with the precision these devices require.

DIGITAL HEARING AIDS

Sophisticated hearing aids are now available that employ digital signal processing with many advanced features to optimize your hearing. These hearing aids provide excellent sound quality and have been shown to provide significant benefit in difficult listening situations. These hearing aids contain a computer chip and are programmed by the Audiologist to match your hearing loss using a computer.

Digital Hearing Aid Features

Dual microphones allow you to hear better in noisy situations. Some can even identify the source of the noise and reduce it.

Open technology that keeps the ear canal unobstructed eliminates that “talking in a barrel” effect, called the occlusion effect.

Feedback cancellation does just that… It cancels feedback BEFORE you hear it as an annoying whistle.

Hands free technology automatically adjusts to your listening environment… whether you are on the phone, in a crowd or in wind.

Your digital hearing aid can be programmed with a computer to meet your individualized needs.

Wireless technology allows you to hear your cell phone, television and home phone in stereo, directly through your hearing aids.
